About Me
About me…
Anna Marie Tobin (AMT) is a director, writer, & deviser with a background in music. They are an alumni of Pace University from the International Performance Ensemble, majoring in Directing and Film & Screen Studies—the cross study of which inspired their Honors Thesis “Cut-Sleeves” a written pilot and pitch deck for a television series.
Awards: Best Director, Best Production, & Most Creative Production at the New York Theater Festival (2024) for The Book, or Dear Reader.
I tell stories that live in the intersection of the magical and mundane. I like theatre that’s experimental (or just plain strange); throwing young people into absurd, manic, and life or death situations. I gravitate towards intimate new works that explore gender and feminist themes through dark humor and high camp.
As a former dancer and musician, I create a theatrical experience activated by sound and told through stylized movement. My devising background leads my processes, collaboration has to be at the center—there’s no place for ego in the room. I strive to foster a space of experimentation and curiosity for all its players.
